UWCCC Experimental Animal Pathology Lab (EAPL) Phase 1 Research Reboot
The EAPL is currently operating under restricted access Research Reboot operational guidelines.
During research reboot phase 2 the histology labs (rooms 4012, 4016-4018) will be off limits to all except for EAPL staff and scheduled face-to-face consults. The microscope room (exterior room 4018B) will be open to trained clients who have reserved their use via ILab.
Specimen pick up and drop off will remain the same as before, in the corridor outside the lab. Clients will record their name and date of pick up or drop off in the log on the table. If you don’t have access to the 4th floor of WIMR you may call the lab and we will meet you. The refrigerator and freezer door handles will be disinfected by staff twice daily. There are Lysol wipes on the table outside of the lab for clients to wipe handles.
Special accommodations can be made for those of you that need to use the cytospin machine for approved critical research.
Microscope Training and Usage
The Nikon Intensilite microscope is open for use by trained users*. Clients will wear a mask and a lab coat while operating the scope. The EAPL does not supply the PPE. Clients will still reserve the scope on ILabs. There will be at least a 30 minute interval between users. After you sign up, call the EAPL and inform us of your appointment. During the first 5 minutes of your session we will show you how to sanitize the scope and surfaces. Users must wipe down surfaces with disinfectant or 70% alcohol sprayed on Kim wipes to prevent aerosolizing settled virus prior to use of equipment; we will provide the ethanol and Kim wipes. Users must keep a mental note of surfaces touched during their sessions and clean all surfaces again prior to leaving an equipment room. At the end of your session, you will sanitize the scope and all surfaces touched. Clients will apply hand sanitizer (supplied) before leaving the room.
*Microscope training: Clients must be trained to use the microscope before they can reserve use via iLab. You may schedule a time for training by emailing the lab at: EPL@cancer.wisc.edu. Training will take place during the initial 15 minutes of your reservation.
