Associate Director of Administration Peter Connor

As the Associate Director of Administration, Mr. Connor provides administrative leadership, overall programmatic and operational support, and oversees the effective management of the multiple and complex fiscal and human resources needed to accomplish the UW Carbone Cancer Center’s educational and research missions. Mr. Connor interacts with the leadership of the School of Medicine and Public Health, UW Hospitals and Clinics (UWHC), and clinical and basic science departments. He is directly responsible to the Director for all operations, center finances, and organizational structure.

Mr. Connor began the first half of his career in hospital administration at Northwestern’s Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and NorthShore University Health System. He has over 12 years’ experience as a Division, Department or Center Administrator. His prior experience also includes management and oversight of hospital financial analysis; industry clinical trial contracting; revenue management; and business management of nurse clinical education and orientation for a major hospital system in the Chicago area. Most recently, he was a Department Administrator at Northwestern University with Dr. David Cella, PhD (Department Chair and Assoc. Director of Cancer Control and Prevention). The department grew from 30-to-190 FTEs in 6 years, recruited 18 tenure-track faculty, and increased awards 300%. Notable accomplishments include establishing the Northwestern University Center for Outcomes Research and Education (NUCORE), a $3.5 million/year for-profit-University partnership, and establishing a Center for Patient-Centered Outcomes. Mr. Connor’s experience with large unique application-to-award grants and contracts includes NIH’s Roadmap funded Toolbox N01 contract ($10 million); the National Children’s Study site contract ($50 million); and NIH’s first U2C NCI sustainability cooperative award (Co-Inv; $12 million). He is an active member of the Institute of Management Accountants, National Council of University Research Administrators, and represents UWCCC on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Board of Directors.
