Dr. Tevaarwerk is Director of the UW Carbone Cancer Center’s Survivorship Program, which assesses and researches the needs of cancer survivors (e.g. symptoms, health behaviors, coordination of care, education, adherence to self-administered cancer therapies, etc). Her research focus is to develop tools that will:
- increase communication, collaboration and care coordination between survivors and health care providers, particularly for survivors done with active treatment
- decrease the impact of cancer diagnosis and treatment on work and employment
To support this mission, she has received funding from various sources including NIH, NIDDR, ICTR and UW. Much of her recent research has focused on leveraging the EHR to improve care processes. As such, she has expertise in working with EHR analysts and software designers to develop healthcare IT (she is an Epic-certified physician builder and a member of the UW Health Physician Informatics Team). Within the UW and other academic programs, she collaborates closely with Industrial and Human Factors Engineering, Nursing, Kinesiology and Primary Care.
Dr. Tevaarwerk is a member of the Breast and Palliative Disease-Oriented Teams, through which multiple clinical trials are helping to find both better treatments and supportive care approaches for those with cancer. Nationally, she is a member of the ECOG-ACIRN breast cancer committee, NCCN Survivorship Panel, NCCN EHR Advisory Group, and Epic’s Oncology Steering Board.
