Patankar To Lead Shared Resources for SMPH, Carbone

Dr. Manish Patankar will become the next senior Director of Shared Resources at SMPH, overseeing all the school’s shared research resources, including those in the UW Carbone Cancer Center. His appointment will begin on Jan. 1, 2026.

In this role, Dr. Patankar will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of all SMPH shared research resources, including those of the UWCCC, through development and implementation of strategic goals and overall administrative and fiscal management. Our school’s shared resources include an array of instrumentation, technologies, consultation services, and other services that are available to all scientific and clinical investigators to advance their research and scholarship. Dr. Patankar also assumes the responsibility of assessing the scientific direction and research impact of current and future shared resource activities and evaluating the prioritization of shared resources within the strategic research mission of SMPH.

A professor of obstetrics and gynecology since 2004, Dr. Patankar leads the Flow Cytometry laboratory at UWCCC and serves his department as vice chair for research and director of the Division of Reproductive Sciences. He is also associate director of the Endocrinology-Reproductive Physiology Graduate Program. His research focuses on diagnostics and therapies for ovarian cancer and now includes endometriosis. He plays a key role in maintaining advanced instrumentation, staff development, business planning, grant writing, and cross-unit collaboration.

We are particularly grateful for the leadership that Rich Halberg, PhD, provided as senior director of SMPH Shared Resources since 2021, and Professor Emeritus Jim Shull provided as associate director of Carbone’s shared resources since 2009.
