UW Carbone Receives Two-Year CCSG MERIT Extension

We’re thrilled to announce that, for the first time in our 53-year history, UW Carbone’s Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) MERIT Extension application was just approved by the National Cancer Advisory Board! This two-year extension of core funding is based on high performance metrics, including being rated “outstanding to exceptional” or better in our past two CCSG renewal reviews. This extends our grant funding from a five-year to a seven-year cycle, with the next review period due in 2029.

As we know, the core grant renewal process is a very rigorous peer review of UW Carbone’s research impact, fiscal responsibility, and dozens of other key performance metrics. Preparing for each renewal review cycle takes a significant amount of work and allows us to reflect on our achievements and growth over the years.

UW Carbone’s high performance is credited entirely to the hard work, dedication and expertise of member researchers, clinicians, support staff, and others who move our cancer center’s mission forward. We are also thankful for the unprecedented support from leaders at the School of Medicine and Public Health, UW Madison, UW Health, Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, and the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association.

Thank you for all the hard work you do every day and for setting this new bar for our comprehensive cancer center.
