OUTREACH AWARD
Sofia designed, supervised and participated in the first ever global oncology study abroad program this past January. Cancer Care Across Cultures, developed with Dr. Nabeel Zafar in the UW Carbone Global Oncology Program, provided undergraduate students with an intensive week of study at UW Carbone before traveling to Europe to explore a different model of cancer care within a different healthcare system.
This new course had a record number of interested students and received exemplary evaluations from all participants. She is now developing a similar program proposal for UW Carbone-affiliated students to travel to Ghana, which will expand our reach to a higher need country and community.
TEAMWORK AWARD
Mara is always willing to take on a leadership role in any task, and they are great at thinking about processes at large and how to accurately capture them. They have turned their own expertise into sustainable tools, documentation, and systems that support colleagues center‑wide. Examples of their accomplishments include:
- Helping colleagues prepare for a newly-required certification exam through creating study materials and a dedicated Teams channel for questions.
- Leading an effort to collate all the various oncology disease teams’ excess research kit supplies into an organized, user-friendly storage system.
- Organizing our UWCCC-wide Protocol Admin Coordinator monthly meetings.
They also took on the task of making notes & organizing a draft KB page for their working group that encompasses most of the knowledge for activating Theranostic studies at UWCCC. The group would not be as far along in this project without their efforts!
