Cancer Research Trainee Exchange
Program Overview
The Cancer Research Trainee Exchange is an initiative to enhance the trainee experience of rising scholars in the field of cancer research. This program aims to foster a network of emerging trainees by facilitating a visit to a partnering cancer center where participants share their research through an external speaking opportunity, network and collaborate. Travel and lodging expenses are covered by CTN/UWCCC CRTEC.
Objectives
- Skill Development: Enhance presentation and communication skills in a professional setting, preparing for future career responsibilities.
- Knowledge Exchange: Present research findings promoting academic dialogue and cross-institutional collaboration.
- Networking Opportunities: Create lasting connections among emerging scholars, faculty, and industry leaders, fostering potential collaborations and mentorship for future job success.
Participating cancer centers and visit details
University of Cincinnati Cancer Center– September 18-19
- Present at the combined research program meeting attended by cancer center staff, leadership, and trainees
- Network with researchers and trainees
- All trainees are welcome to apply and will be considered. Cincinnati’s priority cancers are Tobacco-related cancers (Lung); Hormone-related cancers (Breast and Prostate); and Hematologic Cancers (Blood). They also have strong research in head & neck and pancreatic cancers.
University of Vermont Cancer Center– flexible fall travel dates
- An experience tailored to best meet your personal and research interests
- All trainees are welcome to apply and will be considered. More info about priority cancers coming soon!
University of Illinois Chicago– August 27-28
- Attend and present at the 2025 Trainee Membership Annual Meeting
- All trainees are welcome to apply and will be considered.

Eligible applicants
- Graduate student or post doc studying with a faculty member of the UW Carbone Cancer Center
- Resident or fellow in a cancer-related specialty
