Education and consultation – CAMP leadership meets one-on-one with UWCCC PIs to discuss project proposals, learn about the project background, overarching goals, timelines, etc. Similarly, they explain the capabilities and limitations of MS as relevant to the proposed work.
MS-technology – Proteomics and PTMs. The CAMP network possesses extensive expertise and cutting-edge instrumentation to provide deep global analysis of proteins and their PTMs. CAMP proteome and PTM expert labs include Coon, Denu, Ge, Li, Smith, Sussman, Weeks along with several cores and Centers. Most of the MS instruments are outfitted with nano high pressure liquid chromatography (nHPLC) systems and have a variety of dissociation technologies including collisional activation, electron transfer, and photoactivation. Further, multiple are outfitted with ion mobility – either traditional or high-field asymmetric waveform ion mobility (FAIMS). Our expert labs routinely perform comparative analysis on scale of dozens to hundreds of biological samples, depending on the project.
MS technology – Metabolomics and Lipidomics. CAMP expert labs are also at the cutting-edge of metabolite and lipid analysis – routinely quantifying ~1,000 unique lipids and metabolites from complex biological samples. CAMP proteome and PTM expert labs include Amador-Noguez, Cantor, Coon, Denu, Fan, Ge, Simcox along with several cores and centers. Typical analyses involve extracting the target compounds of interest and performing LC or GC-MS on the resultant complex mixtures of compounds. Both discovery and targeted analyses are routinely done across these various CAMP expert labs. Of note, are the labs of Amador-Noguez and Fan, who are uniquely setup to perform metabolic flux assays. And the MS imaging capability of Li is also highly relevant for spatial mapping of lipids and metabolites in various tissues and tumors.
