Past Projects

This project is part of a major new initiative funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The Greater Plains Collaborative is comprised of leading medical centers in 7 states and has selected breast cancer as a topic to demonstrate that the network is capable of collaboration and data sharing across 9 sites that serve adult patients. The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center is one of the sites.

C-POD provided project management, incentive management, and mailing administration services for this project. Specifically, C-POD worked closely with the lead site, University of Iowa, in mailing surveys to 250 breast cancer patients treated at UW Hospital along with consent forms requesting access to medical record information and consent for future use of medical record information.

This National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded project aimed to enhance collaborations to develop research and interventions to increase HPV vaccination uptake in primary care settings in Wisconsin. Working closely with the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, C-POD staff helped create and collect data via a web survey which invited 270 respondents. C-POD also requested data from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry, and evaluated an education intervention conducted among UW Health clinics. Furthermore, C-POD took part in preparing the final report submitted to NCI.

This project used qualitative methods to study the impact of cancer treatments on survivors’ ability to work. C-POD assisted Dr. Tavaarwerk to develop interview questionnaires. In addition, C-POD was responsible for conducting phone interviews with 11 cancer survivors and performing framework analysis using Nvivo software.

This project is an on-going cohort study following approximately 2,000 Wisconsin women diagnosed with carcinoma in situ of the breast in 1997-2006. For this project, C-POD was involved with project management, incentive management, mailing administration, and phone follow-up services. C-POD mailed 1,500 surveys and used several approaches to encourage participation.

This study examined the connection between breast density, as evaluated by a mammogram, and the levels of the heavy metal cadmium measured in the urine. C-POD administered a national survey of 725 women who volunteered to be a part of Avon’s Army of Women. Data collection included an online survey, medical records collection, and collection of a urine sample (self-collected in women’s homes) using kits delivered through express mail. C-POD also facilitated collection and abstraction of mammographic reports from providers across the United States.

The ROLES project assessed health literacy and patient navigation needs among rural cancer patients using a mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) approach. C-POD was involved in multiple aspects of this project including project management, programming, mailing administration, data entry, and data management.
